Serena Tonstad, MD, PhD, MPH, is Professor at the University of Oslo in Norway. She is also Head Physician in the Department of Preventive Cardiology at Ullevål University Hospital in Oslo. At present, she is on leave and working as a Professor of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Loma Linda University in California.
Dr Tonstad has been the primary investigator in a wide range of studies regarding lipid-lowering drugs, obesity drugs, and drugs for smoking cessation. She is interested in integrating lifestyle change and drug treatment for the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Dr Tonstad has authored or coauthored over 150 articles published in peer-reviewed journals.
Dr Tonstad completed her medical degree at Loma Linda University, California, where she also completed a Masters of Public Health in epidemiology. Dr Tonstad completed her doctoral degree in preventive medicine at the University of Oslo. She is board certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine.
