Christian Chiamulera, PharmD, MSc, is an Associate Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Verona, Faculty of Sports Medicine and Exercise. He currently supervises research groups in the Neuropsychopharmacology Lab within the Department of Medicine & Public Health in the medical school. Dr Chiamulera joined this institution almost five years ago, after sixteen years in the pharmaceutical industry. Since 1991, Dr Chiamulera has worked on nicotine dependence and drug addiction. Dr Chiamulera’s background was in preclinical behavioral pharmacology, but he has also had the chance to collaborate and/or to coordinate multidisciplinary projects on the molecular and cellular basis of nicotine dependence, as well as in clinical research. Dr Chiamulera has been involved in the launch of new medications and post-marketing studies.

Dr Chiamulera’s current research interest is on putting together molecular/cellular basis of neuroadaptation and those behavioral changes induced by the integration of environmental and pharmacologic factors. He collaborates with human laboratory groups in order to translate research findings into the clinic.

Dr Chiamulera is also dedicated to education and scientific communication among teenagers, undergraduate and PhD students, athletes, healthcare professionals.

Dr Chiamulera is a board member of SITAB (2002-2005, 2006-present), the Italian Society of Tobaccology, the only scientific association specifically dedicated to tobacco research, therapy, prevention and control in Italy. He also is a member of several other scientific societies. Dr Chiamulera is a board member of Europe SRNT (2004-2007) and chairman of the Program Committee. In 2008, Dr Chiamulera will co-chair and host the European SRNT conference in Rome 2008 (23rd-26th Sep)

Dr Chiamulera has published 29 full peer-reviewed papers (including publications in Science and Nature Neuroscience) and has given more than 80 invited lectures at national and/or international scientific and medical events.
